I only called in for a cuppa!

I was introduced to Invisible Traffick GB through a friend – and only went along for a cuppa!

I went along to the training, not really understanding the enormity of the problem and the impact it has on lives. It was incomprehensible; the terrible abuse that these women had suffered – but more than that, how susceptible and vulnerable any woman is when faced with these perpetrators and masters of  manipulation.

After reflecting on the training and what I had learnt I knew I had to get involved.

I have now been volunteering at the house now for nine months and I leave with a smile on my face after every session. I’m not saving the world; but, for a few hours each week, I hope to bring some fun and giggles to the women. Everybody who volunteers has shown each of the residents that there are good and kind people in the world which has enabled them to trust in people again.

I have met some wonderful women over this time, not just residents but volunteers also. We are a very diverse group; women from different cultures, beliefs and a whole variety of professions.

Volunteering is an amazing gift to others, but the rewards you reap out way the giving.
