Even from before I started volunteering at Tamar House I was amazed by the idea of it – and I have to say the reality has definitely out lived my expectations.

For a number of years now I have been passionate about the fight against human trafficking and have wanted to be able to actively help in this fight somehow. Invisible Traffick GB is an amazing charity that allows people to do just this. The staff team is essentially a family and displays the belief that everyone has something to offer. Since my first day at the house I was amazed with how much like a home it was made to feel. The family feel of the staff team create a tangible homely environment which is essential in the recovery and growth of these girls into the independent ladies they are becoming. I feel honoured to have been able to volunteer now for a number of months and have been able to see the incredible difference a safe and secure environment to work through their trauma has made in these womens’ lives. Seeing a renewed passion for life grow in them and seeing them move forward in their independence has been a humbling experience.

When you think about volunteering you have this belief that you are trying to help someone else but I have to say within Tamar House this definitely works both ways. I feel my time volunteering at Tamar has not only allowed me to witness change in the ladies’ lives it has also allowed me to see a change in myself. The amazing staff team that head up this organisation are so inspirational and truly appreciate every one of their volunteers. This in turn builds up each member of the team and encourages a belief that we can make a difference; not just in these ladies lives but in the global problem of human trafficking. Without these amazing people’s incredible vision to act on the injustice and put thought into action we wouldn’t be changing lives and I feel incredibly blessed to be able to see all this at work. If you can I would definitely recommend you volunteer.
